Chobe Day Trip From Victoria Falls

A two-part wildlife adventure: on water and on land.

A journey into Botswana’s legendary wilderness is one of the most rewarding additions things to do in Victoria Falls. Just a short drive from the Falls lies Chobe National Park, one of Africa’s most celebrated wildlife destinations and home to some of the continent’s most spectacular safari experiences.

A Chobe Day Trip from Victoria Falls offers the unique opportunity to experience two countries in a single day while exploring one of the richest ecosystems in Southern Africa. Crossing into Botswana, travellers are welcomed into a landscape of riverfront floodplains, acacia woodlands, open grasslands and thriving wildlife habitats that support an extraordinary diversity of animals and birds.

Chobe National Park is particularly famous for having one of the largest concentrations of elephants on Earth. It is not uncommon to witness entire family herds gathering along the Chobe River, creating unforgettable wildlife encounters that have become synonymous with Botswana’s safari experience. Alongside these gentle giants, visitors may encounter buffalo, giraffe, zebra, hippo, crocodile, antelope and an impressive range of predators including lion and leopard.

What makes a Chobe Day Tour especially memorable is the combination of both water-based and land-based wildlife viewing. The Chobe River serves as the lifeblood of the park, attracting animals throughout the day and creating exceptional viewing opportunities from the comfort of a safari boat. From the water, guests enjoy a unique perspective as elephants swim between islands, hippos surface beside the boat and colourful birdlife fills the riverbanks.

Beyond the wildlife, Botswana is renowned for its commitment to conservation and low-impact tourism. The country’s protected wilderness areas have helped preserve some of Africa’s most authentic safari landscapes, making Chobe a destination that feels both wild and remarkably unspoiled.

For travellers exploring Victoria Falls, this experience offers a refreshing contrast to the dramatic power of the waterfall itself. While the Falls showcase the raw force of nature, Chobe reveals its quieter rhythms — wildlife moving freely across vast landscapes, birds soaring above ancient floodplains and sunsets casting golden reflections across the river.

Whether you are planning a first-time African adventure or looking to enrich an existing itinerary, a Chobe Day Trip delivers a complete wildlife experience that perfectly complements the many things to do in victoria falls. Combining breathtaking scenery, abundant wildlife and Botswana’s renowned natural beauty, it remains one of the most rewarding day excursions available from Victoria Falls.

Chobe Day Trip

This day trip is divided into two parts: in the morning we have a game viewing boat cruise on the Chobe River, and in the afternoon we embark on a game drive through the National Park. Each activity is 3 hours and in-between you’ll enjoy a buffet lunch at a local hotel.

By the way the Chobe River is one of the only rivers in the world that flows in two directions. In the dry season the river flows East, but in the rainy season, the Zambezi River pushes upstream to reverse the flow of the river towards the West.
